I consider myself an informed, compassionate consumer. I look for the leaping bunny label. I make a conscious effort to shop for products produced by companies on Peta's "Beauty Without Bunnies Program" list . But what happens when a company you have come to trust, lifts it's ban on animal testing? Will you be notified? Will there be a campaign announcing their return to barbaric, absolutely unnecessary, inhuman treatment of animals? Of course not!!
During a late night conversation with a coworker who freelances as a makeup artist, it was brought to my attention that several cosmetic companies known for their ethical treatment of animals have lifted their ban on animal testing.
WHO? I am appalled and disgusted to tell you that MAC is on that list!! Revlon, Avon, Almay and L'Oreal have also returned to the dark ages.
WHY? MONEY! In order to sell cosmetics, body and hair products to China, the worlds second largest economy, it is the law, (yes, thats right it's the law) that all products must first be tested on animals... Oh of course, more money makes the torture of animals completely acceptable. A revenue of 7.32 Billion Dollars for MAC in 2011 is simply not acceptable...WHAT?!
In 2012 The Body Shop was sold to L'Oreal. L'Oreal tests on animals. If the umbrella company tests on animals how long before one of the leading ethical cosmetic companies removes the leaping bunny label and how will you know? The Beauty Without Bunnies Program is updated regularly by PETA
